Top 10 (Customer Service Training} Tips ? hot news

Keep yourself educated on all the retail products sold in your store and be prepared for any question. Make sure you know all the answers you may need to assist a customer beforehand, but also be sure to keep your expressions of product knowledge balanced. Bombarding customers with information when they really just want to shop in peace can be a huge turn-off.For clothing retail stores, be sure to periodically check on customers in the dressing rooms, but do not annoy them by interrupting too often. If they happen to ask for your opinion, always be honest and polite when making suggestions. Once a customer has made their selections and is ready to check out, point them to the register. It should not, however, be considered a one-time or annual event. Customer service training is an ongoing process that needs to be incorporated into the organization?s culture and way of doing business.Good customer service training will be based on the needs of your organization as well as the skill level of your employees. Following are some key elements in ensuring that your customer service training efforts get results.

1)????? Start with the end in mind. What do you want to accomplish with your customer service training efforts? Your answer will be unique to your business, the product or service you provide and the type of customer you serve. For example, if you run a dry cleaning business, your expectation may be that customers are greeted promptly when they come into your store, that clothing is cleaned to their specifications and that any problems or issues are resolved according to prescribed policies/practices that have been clearly communicated to customers. If you run a consulting business your customer service expectations may include lengthy interactions with clients to clearly determine their needs, identified check-points throughout the consulting process, etc. Regardless of the specifics, the point is that you need to have a clear idea of the end results you?re looking for. Then you can use these results to help direct the focus of your customer service training efforts.2)????? Define success. That?s as true as it is important. As managers, we need to remember that time is our friend. Training must be continuous. If your team members aren?t experts already, make them experts over time.People FirstBut until your employees are the experts you know they can be, there are some other things you can do to provide great customer service training for retail. One thing is to ensure that your customers are treated as individuals. Too many customer experiences are soured by a robotic employee ?dealing? with ?another customer.? Putting an end to this type of interaction starts during training, and it starts at the top. Treat your employees as individual people first, and employees second, and invite them to do the same with customers. Empower them to make exceptions or give discounts on behalf of the company. Then, when they realize their moment-to-moment decisions can affect real company outcomes, they?ll be less likely to feel like just another cog in the machine, and they?ll see and treat customers as people first.Follow-ThroughOf any of these three, this is the most teachable (and perhaps most traceable). ?Rampage? weight flop costs him; Bader puts him on his back to roll to victory at UFC 144

Quinton Jackson didn't come to Japan ready to fight and it costed him in what he hoped would be a triumphant return. The former PRIDE legend and UFC light heavyweight champ didn't make weight on Friday. When it came time to show his stamina and athleticism, "Rampage" just didn't have it.

Behind a solid clinch game and wrestling, Ryan Bader pulled what turned out to be a mild upset, via unanimous decision, 30-27 on all three cards.

[ Related: Benson Henderson wins title belt in classic vs. Frankie Edgar ]

Jackson was a minus-250 favorite in the lead up to the fight. When he showed up at the weigh-in looking soft and tipping the scales at 211 pounds, bettors pounded the Bader side. They were right. Jackson explained that his weight miss was due to an injury during training camp that "kept him from doing his roadwork." Jackson did have a noticeable limp after the fight.

The 33-year-old wound up forfeiting 20 percent of his salary, which was likely around $250,000. That money goes straight to Bader. This was a huge win for the former Arizona State All-American wrestler. Bader has been on the cusp of big things, but was dominated in 2010 by the future division champ Jon Jones and upset last year by Tito Ortiz.

Jackson had one big moment in the fight. Known during his PRIDE days for his powerful slam, Jackson turned back the clock and spiked Bader. The second-round slam had Bader land in an awkward position. It looked like he may have injured his right arm at that point, but Bader said he was fine after the fight.

His performance showed it. He scored takedowns in each round. He didn't land anything too vicious on top but dominated position and made it tough for Jackson to get back to his feet.

Jackson, a native of Memphis, exploded as an MMA star during his time in Japan between 2001-2006.

CLICK | Comic Book and Movie Reviews

Have you ever wondered why technology and religion always appear to be very strange bedfellows? One is a concept of science. The other is an aspect of history. And together, they just clash. Exactly like this film in fact ? one Directed by Frank Coraci; and Starring: Adam Sandler, Christopher Walken, David Hasselhoff, and Kate Beckinsale. It was made in 2006; and lasts 100-minutes.

Click (Special Edition)

THE STORY:
Now it is a very sad thing to say, but surly architect, Michael Newman (Adam Sandler), spends more time prepping work for his boss, John Ammer (David Hasselhoff), than he does having fun with his wife, Donna (Kate Beckinsale), and kids.

However, one evening, when Michael goes to the shopping mall to buy a universal remote control for his television set, he meets a stock room attended called Morty (Christopher Walken), whom gives him something that he desperately needs.

A remote control? Err ? yes and no. You see, what Morty gives Michael isn?t just any normal remote control, oh no. It?s a special remote control that he can use to pervert time with, as he sees fit.

For example: Michael can fast forward time when he does not want to have sex with his wife, or take a shower. He can mute Donna?s friends? voice, Janine (Jennifer Coolidge) when she shouts at him for his bad behaviour. He can go back in time and witness his Mum, Trudy (Julie Kavner), and Dad, Ted (Henry Winkler), do the nasty. He can skip forward in time so that he does not have to ?be present? during a family gathering. Plus on top of that, he can even change the language of prospective Japanese clients, so that he can ascertain what they need with a proposed project.

Great news, right? No - afraid not. Because amidst all of this ?tampering with time?, the remote control begins to determine that Michael only uses this device whenever he is in trouble. So what does the remote do next? Yes ? regrettably ? it gets stuck on auto-pilot, and commences to pre-empt Michaels next demand.

Well, that is why it thrusts Michael three month into the future, due to a prompting of a possible job promotion. Then, is does the same things once more! But not for just three months ? oh no ? ten years ? when Michael becomes CEO of the company he works for.??

Now obviously Michael is greatly deterred by these strange turn of events, and he does whatever he can to smash the remote control (which does not work) and ask Morty for help (which does not work either). Worst still, is by this time Michael is a fat b*stard with a heart condition, his son looks like Jonas Hill, his daughter has tits, and his wife is married to another man.

Shit.

Therefore, that is why what next transpires happens after another time shift. As death leads to revelations ? marriage leads to acceptance ? and a new life dawns in the dreams of the old.

Click?

THE REVIEW:

My God! What a f*cking b*stard of a movie! There I was, just sitting back and watching what I though to be just another ?Adam Sandler? comedy ? but suddenly ? boom ? it kicked me right in the teeth and made me cry like a baby.

Now I do not mean this in a bad way about ?Click? of course ?? because any film than can make me feel is a good film in my book. Nevertheless, it is the way that this film creeped up on me, which made it so bloody deceiving.

You see, it start?s off with a somewhat jovial pretext, when Adam?s character is given a remote control by Christopher?s character, so that he can play about with in a very charming way. Next, after some fun is had by Adam?s character, the pretext changes a bit, and starts to gradually become more sinister with the whole ?time shift? scenario. After that ? pow ? the pretext takes out a baseball bat and smashed you in the face full on ? blatantly relaying the underlining message of what this movie is all about (cherish the time you have with your loved ones). And finally, following a good weep, the pretext relinquishes it grip of your heart, and gives you a conclusion that is one half groan-worthy, and one-half relief (making you feel somewhat strange inside).

Please note, all of what I just said is to be taken in a positive way ? as ?Click? is a very cleverly constructed film, which has been devised in such a way, that it takes us ? the audience ? on a roller-coaster ride of an adventure. Moreover, the cast are great (especially the Hoff and Walken), the message is very poignant (it made me cry), and the special effects are not that bad either (like a video game in drag).

However, there were three slight things about this movie, that I was not too pleased about. Firstly, the name of this film, ?Click?, does not really sell it for me ? because it does come across a silly throw away ?tag line?. Secondly, there is a rather jagged tone to the overall film ? especially in the ?time shift? sequences, progressing the though line with a slightly hollow subtext. And thirdly, how on earth does someone like Adam bag a girl like Kate ? that was more far fetched than the whole remote control thing.

Overall, though, this is just a brilliant film to watch. Personally speaking, I would define it as the modern day version of ?It?s a Wonderful Life?, with an additional spattering of ?Groundhog Day? and ?Sleeper? for good measure. Plus, in additional to this, I have to confess, the underling message it the thing that moved me the most.

Be good to people ? don?t take others for granted ? live life to the fullest ? and also, please watch this, my favorite parts of the movie, as it?s a blast...

Lease An SEO Server To Watch Your Internet Retail Business ...

Web-based retail may be about the most rewarding businesses on the net inside the present ten years. The way Web-based retail is developing during the last decade offers us every reason to feel that the market may continue to increase in the next decade as well. You are able to use cutting-edge systems like an optimized SEO server to stay a stride in front of your competitors. Yet, as progressively more web owners venture directly into this area, your competition is certain to become steep and cutthroat.

Web-based retailing in the last 10 years was about branding and retailing, supply chain management and focused internet hosting. Having said that, if you?re still not an established firm and are searching to size up, you will need a whole lot more than old-school search engine optimization to secure superior browser?s search engine ranks than your more founded competitors. That?s where a superb SEO server may enable you to put your own foot in the door.

An SEO server essentially helps a internet site in enhancing its internet search engine page rank, by employing such things as class C IPs, distinctive rDNS and nameservers. Though this all may sound too ?technically inspired? to a regular web site owner, the concepts which an SEO server functions are pretty straightforward. Numerous Class C IP addresses constitute the crux of an SEO server. There are quite a lot of ways by which distinctive SEO server web hosting companies combine various ingredients to provide greatest end product to the end user. Keep in mind, the larger the number of class C IP addresses, the better your personal chances of outpacing the competition.

One more purpose why Web-based retailing web-sites need SEO server internet hosting to surpass your competitors is the easy availability of men and women having the expertise in nearly all other areas of E-commerce. Almost anyone searching to start a Web-based retail platform could get their fingers upon the very best developers, data base administrators, server admins and web optimization gurus. This allows even the rookies of the industry to come up with the ideal constructed Web-based retail program. The only portion of the organization that?s overlooked is the hosting space. Website hosting is the root of a website. As a result, if you can get the greatest SEO server to host your personal webpage on and pool the most beneficial talent to handle the SEO server website hosting, you are able to potentially go over the competition, considering that all those other elements (such as quality, attributes, products, scheduling details and so on.) stay the exact same. Internet hosting is certainly one area that gives you adequate room to make a leeway and make your existence felt.

You really should carry out some analysis prior to deciding on an SEO server business. Go through the qualifications of the firm, the skills and certificates of the support staff members and read consumer recommendations prior to you signing up for an SEO server hosting organization. Ask inquiries regarding the volume of class C IP addresses provided in several deals, Nameserver access and rDNS access. You should really also do a little bit of investigation about Website SEO generally speaking and machine operations. Remember, the best method of finding the right SEO server company is to conduct some homework at your end.

Kodak _ and film _ saying goodbye to the Oscars

(AP) ? Each year at the Oscars ceremony, Hollywood says goodbye to stars and filmmakers who've died. This year, the award show will bid adieu to the Kodak Theatre.

Just a decade ago, the glamorous 3,300-seat venue was touted as the Oscars' first permanent home, but the 131-year-old Eastman Kodak Co. has forfeited its sponsorship of the venue as it struggles with bankruptcy.

The move symbolizes Kodak's fading star power in Hollywood. Although seven of the nine "Best Picture" nominees were shot on Kodak film, the industry's increasing use of digital editing and projection has ravaged the company's printing business.

About half of the world's commercial screens now show movies from digital projectors, and by some estimates, film reels will soon be a thing of the past.

"35-millimeter is coming to the end of its life," said David Hancock, head of film and cinema for research firm IHS Screen Digest. "In four years' time there will be no film printing business."

Kodak film has long been a favorite of cinematographers. But more and more movies are shot using digital cameras, and the notion of a "cutting-room floor" littered with celluloid scraps has given way to studios with computerized tools such as Avid Technology Inc.'s Avid DS and Apple Inc.'s Final Cut Pro.

At their peak, motion pictures accounted for more than 12 billion feet of film processing each year, enough to reach the moon and back five times, according to IHS. This year, IHS predicts film processing will shrink to about 4 billion feet as an increasing number of theaters receive their "films" by satellite or via hard drives delivered by courier.

"We no longer ship (film) to most theaters," Philippe Dauman, chief executive of Paramount Pictures owner Viacom Inc., told a conference last month. "We have helped them implement digital distribution so we don't have to make so many prints."

The billions of dollars that major studios save on film ? and its costly ingredient, silver ? has resulted in revenue declines for the Kodak division that once accounted for the vast majority of the company's overall revenue.

In the first half of 2011, revenue from the division that makes motion picture stock film was $763 million, about half the $1.57 billion it posted in the same period in 2008.

Film printing volume was crucial to Kodak. Although it takes about 1 million feet to shoot a feature film, studios need about 100 million feet to print enough copies for the widest of North American releases.

Kodak sees its future in commercial imaging devices and printing. Still, the motion picture business is significant, accounting for somewhere under a quarter of its revenues. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January with $6.7 billion in debt.

Kodak is unable to afford the marketing boost the Oscars once gave it.

Last week, a bankruptcy court judge approved its early exit from a 20-year naming rights deal it signed with Kodak Theatre owner CIM Group in 1999. As a result, Kodak won't have to pay the $3.6 million annual naming fee.

The Kodak Theatre, which was custom-built for the awards show and first played host to the ceremony in 2002, will be described to millions of viewers on Sunday simply as the "Hollywood & Highland Center."

The judge's decision came too late to remove the signs outside, which may cast a sense of gloom over an industry already rocked by technological change.

"I think everyone looks at Kodak's name coming off the theater with a degree of sadness mixed with respect," said Chris McGurk, chief executive of Cinedigm Digital Cinema Corp., which installs digital projectors for thousands of movie screens and is getting into the business of putting live video feeds into theaters. "It's just that the tide has shifted. The digital rollout is moving great guns. It's unfortunate that the great companies that helped build the film business can't all be part of it going forward."

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, which declined to comment for this story, is reportedly considering a move to a different venue.

The Academy won't suffer financially from the unpaid fee, since it doesn't have a direct relationship with Kodak and most of its $100 million annual budget comes from licensing the Oscar ceremony's broadcast, according to Moody's Investors Service. The Academy leases the space from CIM Group.

It's not as if Kodak didn't see the digital future coming. Last October, Kodak licensed its patented laser projection technology to Imax Corp. to allow digital projectors to work in domes and other huge theaters that were once reserved for film.

Even if its name is gone from the Oscars, Kodak will still be a part of filmmaking, as long as Academy voters continue to pick movies with that rich, grainy "film look." Kodak stock film was used to shoot Oscar-nominated movies such as "War Horse," ''The Tree of Life," and "The Help," even though the captured images were converted for digital editing and delivery.

Mark Graziano, senior vice president of post-production at "War Horse" maker DreamWorks Studios, said the end of the sponsorship serves as a reminder of the "lost art" of film production, and of the workers who once had titles like "negative cutter." It used to take two weeks, for example, just to prepare a rough cut for studio executives to view in screening rooms. The process is nearly instantaneous now.

"It makes you nostalgic for the days when we only worked with 35-millimeter film," Graziano said, noting that film still has a place at many studios. "You look at many filmmakers that swear by film capture, their movies always look gorgeous. It's hard to turn your back on that."

Home- and Family-Based Approaches for the Prevention or ...

Home- and Family-Based Approaches for the Prevention or Management of Overweight or Obesity in Early Childhood (R21)
(PA-10-128)
National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)
National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI)
Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (OBSSR)
Office of Disease Prevention (ODP)

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites exploratory pilot/feasibility study and small clinical trial (R21) applications from institutions/organizations that propose to test novel home- or family-based interventions for the prevention or management of overweight in infancy and early childhood. Tested interventions can use behavioral (including dietary and physical activity), environmental, or other relevant approaches. Applications should focus on infants and young children (up to age 6) and emphasize the role of home environment and the influence of family/extended family members and parents (including guardians/substantial care-providers) within the child?s home environment. The direct goal of this initiative is to fund research that will advance knowledge for innovative approaches to the prevention or management of overweight in children younger than 6 years of age, with potential for future research clinical trial applications either in the home or linked to a community setting. Research should consider the role of families in the initiation, support, and reinforcement of fundamental food and beverage consumption, physical activity practices and sedentary behaviors. In addition, it is of interest to elucidate various underlying behavioral determinants that are crucial to initiate or sustain changes in behaviors that impact energy balance. Research designs may include linkages with other settings (e.g., daycare, pre-school, or other community venues) or other care providers (e.g., health-care providers or teachers) but must include infants or children younger than age 6 as the primary study participant along with parents, and/or other family members residing with the child. The overarching goal is to identify interventions that influence parent and child behaviors that contribute to inappropriate weight gain, and thereby improve subsequent health status in childhood, adolescence, and adulthood for which overweight is a known risk factor. This FOA will use the NIH Exploratory/Developmental (R21) grant mechanism and runs in parallel with a FOA of identical scientific scope, PA-10-127, that encourages applications under the R01 mechanism.

Last chance to clear out Google Web History before the great data convergence

Google Privacy Policy
The end is nigh! For about 59 different Google ToS documents at least. After today, the new consolidated privacy policy will go into effect, which will also consolidate much of your data across Google's properties. That means this is your last chance to clear out El Goog's "you archives" before the great convergence of 2012. If you're not keen on Google sharing your information between its various products (though, you seemed to be okay with it being collected in the first place) today is the day to go and delete it all. Of particular concern for some is Web History, which collects your searches and sites visited and has, until now, been walled off from the rest of the Google empire. For complete instructions for how to clear out your Google Web History hit up the source link.

Last chance to clear out Google Web History before the great data convergence originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 22 Feb 2012 17:21:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Spendthrifts: Preserving Your Estate for Your Children | 20/20 Insight

Protecting and preserving your estate for your children after your death has become much more challenging in the face of the current economic climate.

With the financial collapse of 2008 and subsequent recession, the perilous nature of the European market, our country?s debt crisis, and the fears of another recession, many people are concerned about the long-term stability of the assets left to their children. Very often, however, market conditions are not the biggest threat to the inheritance you leave to your children; rather, the unpreparedness of your own children to manage their inheritance may pose the biggest threat. According to a recent poll, 75% of heirs felt either completely unprepared or only somewhat prepared to handle the management of their inheritance.

Fortunately, there are several solutions to protect against the diminution of such assets, either through mismanagement or creditor issues. One of the most common solutions to preserving your assets for your children is the creation of a spendthrift trust. A spendthrift trust is a trust that restrains the voluntary and involuntary transfer of a beneficiary?s interest in the trust. Such a trust is often established when the beneficiary cannot effectively manage the beneficiary?s own financial affairs, or, similarly, as an asset protection tool to protect the trust?s assets from the beneficiary?s debt and creditors.

The following are several considerations when using a spendthrift trust:

Trust terms? Most spendthrift trusts are irrevocable, provide discretionary as well as mandatory payout provisions, and may even direct partial or full payments of the trust assets to the beneficiary upon reaching certain age requirements.

The terms of the trust should also explicitly provide spendthrift provisions. For example, the trust should be a spendthrift trust to the maximum extent permitted by law, providing that no interest in the trust shall be subject to a beneficiary?s liabilities or creditor claims, assignment, or anticipation.

The spendthrift trust should also provide protections against the beneficiary?s creditors. For example, if the trustee determines that a beneficiary would not benefit as greatly from any outright distribution of trust income or principal because of the availability of the distribution to the beneficiary?s creditors, the trustee shall instead expend those amounts for the benefit of the beneficiary (i.e., the trustee can directly pay the beneficiary?s bills ? such as rent and medical costs ? instead of giving money to the beneficiary outright which may then be reached by creditors). This direction is intended to enable the trustee to give the beneficiary the maximum possible benefit and enjoyment of all the trust income and principal to which the beneficiary is entitled.

Finally, the spendthrift trust can prevent marital claims against the trust assets in case of the beneficiary?s divorce. This is done by providing that all benefits granted to a beneficiary of the trust shall be the separate property of such beneficiary (as distinguished from marital property, community property, quasi-community property or any other form of property to which such beneficiary?s spouse might have a claim or interest arising out of the marital relationship).

Trustee? One of the most important decisions you must make is who to appoint as trustee of the trust. Often, another family member is asked to serve as the trustee. There are many reasons, however, to consider appointing a corporate trustee (or co-trustee). The corporate trustee?such as a bank or trust company?has experience managing money and can provide valuable guidance. It is also much easier for a corporate trustee to make unbiased decisions, especially when various family dynamics are in play.

Trust Protectors?A growing trend is to also appoint one or more trust protectors, defined as a person or persons who are authorized to direct the action of the trustee. The use of a trust protector can be a valuable tool when you have appointed a corporate trustee of the trust. The addition of a trust protector allows you to appoint a familiar, trustworthy person to oversee the trustee. Depending on your desires, and the applicable state laws, the trust protector may be given the power to (i) modify distribution or administrative provisions; (ii) remove and replace the trustee; (iii) consent to or veto exercises of trustee discretionary powers, such as investments and distributions; (iv) resolve disputes between beneficiaries and the trustee; and (v) terminate the trust.

Subject: RE: more free advertisement about the Alberta Education system

Dear Ms. Clayton,

Thank you for this information.

I was under the impression (based on my school?s lack of responsiveness to my son?s difficulties) that the problem was the money.

Now I understand that the problem is ?in fact ?a lack of will and leadership---at the level of the school administration and at the level of the school district administration.

What this means to me as a parent, is that there must be an alteration in the philosophy and practices at Edmonton Public Schools.

At the school level ?there must be a willingness to see the child in difficulties as someone deserving of assistance and not extra work for the administration of that school. ?

At younger boy's? School there has been a persisting lack of assistance for special education students of any stripe or color and in general---it is my opinion that any student with an IQ that does not fit the high performance standard of the school?s preference ?has been quietly encouraged to move on to other schools that ?best suit the student?s needs.?? I do not believe the school has been accommodating ?at the level of the administration of the school.? The teachers ?on the other hand ?for the most part?have been professional and some of them have been exceptionally helpful.

I cannot help but wonder if my son had a lower IQ ?would we have been encouraged to move onto ?another school?? Because younger boy is near the gifted range?they did not have this excuse but I wonder if other students at this school ?with lower IQ scores ?have been encouraged to go elsewhere??

I am not happy with either Mr. Schmidt or Executive Services at EPS.?? While? I understand that Executive Services has no choice but to do what their CEO tells them to do?I feel that Mr. Schmidt needs to understand that he has to change the way he does business or he needs to find another job.? We ?the parents ?are in charge of the school system and we make the rules. And we want a public education system that is fully transparent to us ?the parents?and we want it now.?? At the school district level, the administration of Edmonton Public Schools must make every process in the handling of special education and indeed, any student transparent to the citizen.

What do I mean by this?? When Executive Services is called in to investigate why an IPP is being called ?fake? and discovers that the IPP has been developed over a year and has no parental consent on it?but has been used by the teachers in that school ---illegally---so to speak---well then?they must tell the parents the error?and they must get parental consent.

They may not hide this error from parents.

They may not build up a story for the parents at a later date when the parent discovers the error.

And they may not continue to lie about the error.

All public servants are paid by citizens.

Citizens?like myself-- take exception to lies and cover-ups.

We take exception to our children being without services for years due to the outright negligence, incompetence and laziness of school administration.

We take extreme exception to the fact that we have to go the Edmonton Public School Board to ensure that accommodations and alterations in curriculum provision?such as written notes?must be fought for ?rather than automatically given.

Parents will not tolerate this type of failures on the part of Edmonton Public School administration especially on the part of Mr. Schmidt who is the CEO of EPS. He is ultimately responsible for the failures in my son?s case because he sets the tone and practices for the whole system. Get going ---Mr. Schmidt. Bring your system up to date and make it accessible and open to us or we will not be willing to pay for the salaries of folks who do not do their jobs.

We now have the ability to fire CEOs through the new Education Act?with the mechanism of a school board decision.

This brings democracy to the level of the ordinary citizen. The new Education Act will be scrutinized very carefully by this mother who will remain active in the school system.

Administrators who do not do their jobs or who do the job in the way it was done in my son?s case?will in future?receive requests from citizens like myself---for termination of employment.

Please note that I am not satisfied with the response of your department or the Minister of Education with reference to EPS.

I believe direct disciplinary action is warranted.

As well, I believe that direct disciplinary action is warranted by EPS administration with reference to my school administration.

Both of these disciplinary actions are essential to prove to the ordinary citizen that their special education child is indeed protected rather than throwaway.

In addition these types of disciplinary actions should be open to the public.

Must citizens go to the CASS and the ATA to get such disciplinary action?

Or will your department instigate clear directives to school districts regarding an open, fair and effective complaint process for parents with reference to special education students and put in place a child?s advocate within the system itself?

These are matters you are responsible for and you need to deal with.

You need to set up a complaint system so that vulnerable children are protected.

Not many parents would do what I have done because they are afraid, or they lack the education or simply stay as ignorant as I was.? For the sake of these parents and their unprotected children?you must put in a complaint process that does not require a school board appeal?but that is still independent and supported by a child advocate.

I don?t believe most parents who work can be a full time child advocate for their kids. We need such an office?to protect the children who don?t have a mother ?of the sort that I am.

Sincerely,

Julie Ali

Dear Ms. Ali,

Thank you for sharing your recent correspondence from the Canadian Association of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists. I am familiar with this organization and the work they do in terms of developing practice guidelines for their membership and was interested to see that they are developing national guidelines in this area. This information will be of interest to speech-language pathologists who work in Alberta schools and health systems. When the time comes, I am happy to share this information with colleagues who support Speech Language Pathologists in schools.

Budget 2012 provided an increase of $68 million in funding for children and students who require additional supports and programming in school to be successful. School jurisdictions are expected to use this funding to provide services to any student who requires additional assistance to help them learn and progress in school. This funding is not tied to the use of special education. As Alberta school jurisdictions implement inclusive education practices, they will be expected to provide services to any student who requires them even those who do not have a special education code or a diagnosis in place.

Inclusive Learning Supports Branch continues to support school system leaders in their work which includes but is not limited to special education. As work progresses on the development of regulations and policies to support the recently introduced Education Act the concerns you have raised through your correspondence will help inform this work.

Again thank you for contacting me and for sharing information from other provinces and organizations.

Regards,

Joyce

What to watch now that 'Downton Abbey' is over

Nick Briggs / ITV for MASTERPIECE

"Downton Abbey" is over for the season, but there are still plenty of other options to satisfy fans.

By Ree Hines

On Sunday night, "Downton Abbey" viewers bid the second season of the addictive drama farewell. Now fans face a long wait until the premiere of the show's third season, and no doubt, they have many questions.

Is there any hope for Bates? Will Matthew and Mary really make it work? What the heck are we supposed to watch now that "Downton Abbey" is over?

Well, at least we have some answers for that last question.

A classic
Want to see more upstairs-downstairs action? Try watching "Upstairs, Downstairs." The Masterpiece series, created in the 1970s, begins in the Edwardian era but soon catches up to the World War I drama of "Downton" and beyond. The grand townhouse where it all takes place isn't as expansive as the Abbey, but it packs just as much drama relating to the haves and the have-nots who serve them.

Season one is available for instant viewing on Netflix, and the entire series is available on DVD.

A modern classic
If you find it hard to get lost in the dated feel of a '70s television production, watch the modern production of "Upstairs, Downstairs," which aired just last year in the U.S. Set in the 1930s, it's the continuing story of the townhouse drama with an all new family -- and a very familiar housekeeper. This is actually the perfect time to catch up on this series, not only as a "Downton Abbey" substitute, but because the second season is already on the air in the U.K and will eventually make its way to Masterpiece, too.

Season one is available on DVD.

Different, but satisfying
The action in the "North & South," based on Elizabeth Gaskell's novel of the same name, predates "Downton" by a bit, but the late Victorian trappings won't dull the miniseries' appeal. In fact, the dark, industrial story lacks the aristocratic side of things all together, but the life and death dilemas, class struggles and romance are all there and just as engrossing.

The miniseries is available for instant viewing on Netflix, and it's available on DVD.

More Maggie Smith
Of course, finding a suitable "Downton Abbey" substitute isn't just about the era, the costumes or the social divide -- there's also the talent. Fans missing all of that are bound to be satisfied by Robert Altman's film "Gosford Park." As if the setting and scandals weren't enough, Maggie Smith, aka everyone's favorite dowager countess from "Downton," steals just as many scenes in this one.

The film is available on DVD and for instant viewing on Netflix.

Stay tuned to Masterpiece
Maybe the easiest way to fill the Sunday night gap that "Downton Abbey" leaves behind is to simply continue to tune in to PBS at the same time each week. Fans of period pieces and emotional plots have a lot to look forward to. Next Sunday night Masterpiece kicks off four weeks of Charles Dickens stories with "The Old Curiosity Shop." "Great Expectations" and "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" follow. Then, once the early Victory Dickens tales are over, Masterpiece has something to really appeal to the "Downton" fans during the last weeks of April with "Birdsong," a two-part miniseries based on Sebastian Faulk's World War I era love story.

Another option
And on the off chance that none of those shows pique your interest, there is one more option guaranteed to please the most particular "Downton Abbey" fan: Go back to the beginning and watch "Downton Abbey" again.

Season one of "Downton Abbey" is available on DVD and for instant viewing on Netflix. The second season is also on DVD, but for a limited time, you can watch the episodes online via the Masterpiece website.

What will you watch now that the second season of "Downton Abby" is over? Tell us on our Facebook page.

(AP) ? Chris Brown and Rihanna are back together, musically speaking.

Two songs featuring the singers hit the Internet on Monday. Brown sings on the remix of Rihanna's sexually charged song "Birthday Cake," and she's on the remix of his upbeat tune "Turn Up the Music."

Brown tweeted a link to the new version of "Turn Up the Music" on Monday, and Rihanna later retweeted it. She also tweeted about the remix for "Birthday Cake."

Brown attacked his then-girlfriend Rihanna at a pre-Grammy Awards party in 2009. He pleaded guilty to a felony charge and is serving five years of probation.

Last year, a judge eased a restraining order after an attorney for Rihanna said she didn't object to removing the stay-away provisions. The order had required Brown to stay 50 yards away from Rihanna, but the restriction was reduced to 10 yards if they were at a music industry event.

After a three-year absence from the Grammys, Brown made his return this year, performing twice at the show and winning best R&B album. Rihanna also performed and picked up a trophy.

Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, told Esquire magazine in its October 2010 issue that she no longer resented Brown and that she enjoys his music.

The two singers first collaborated musically in 2007 on the remix to her monster hit "Umbrella."

Brown also tweeted "HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROBYN" to Rihanna, who turned 24 on Monday.

A representative for Rihanna said she had no comment. An email seeking comment from Brown's representatives went unreturned Monday.

Venue and Photography Tips for Stunning Los Angeles Weddings

Marriage is a celebration of the wishes of a couple to be joined together forever. While the event will only last for one day, the preparations can be grueling. Some couples choose to begin years before the day itself. After getting engaged, the search begins for the perfect wedding gown, suit, bridesmaid dresses, location and caterer. Most Los Angeles wedding photographers are booked in advance as well. This is done to avoid scheduling conflicts, which allows the couple to take a break and unwind days before the actual date knowing that their wedding will be properly documented.

Finding the perfect Los Angeles wedding photography expert need not be a hassle. Your event planner will usually have the numbers and perhaps samples of the best wedding photographers in Los Angeles. However, before scheduling an appointment to meet the potential candidates, it would be best if the bride and groom are able to agree on certain elements.

Firstly, are the pictures to be edited or kept as is? Is there going to be a pre-nuptial shoot? Will the pre-nuptial shoot be done in a studio or at a different venue? Being able to agree on these important key points will help the photographer plan out the concept for each photo shoot.

Before visiting each photographer, the couple should decide on a price range. Most Los Angeles wedding photographers will have different packages to choose from. The price range will vary depending on the skill and the number of locations for the pre-nuptial shoot. Many couples may decide to splurge on wedding photography. That is quite understandable since this is a once in a lifetime event.

The pictures will play a key role in this turning point from single hood to marriage. By picking a skilled photographer, you will be assured of stunning images worthy of your big day.

The venue is an important factor to consider. Natural lighting (i.e. sunlight) is a photographer's best friend. It is hard to replicate with artificial light. This is why most outdoor weddings are celebrated in the morning or in the afternoon. Los Angeles is home to many locations with breathtaking backdrops. If the couple is interested in a quaint garden wedding the Heritage Museum of Los Angeles, Aliso Viejo Conference Center, Rancho Las Lomas, Sherman Library and Gardens, Dana Point's Chart House, The Villa del Sol and Caf? Mozart are locations that should be considered.

Most wedding photographers will agree that beachfront weddings can also be stunning. Picture this, waves crashing on the shore and that is littered with rose petals. It is the perfect picture opportunity. La Casa del Camino, Surf and Sand Resort, Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort and Marina and The Waterfront Beach Resort are great wedding venues.

The urban couple may prefer a venue that looks chic and modern. If you prefer luxurious and minimalist wedding, The Hills Hotel, Anaheim Marriott, Hotel Menage, The Segerstrom Center for the Arts and the Renaissance ClubSport Aliso Viejo are locations that you might want to visit.
