President Obama traveled to Ohio yesterday to discuss the state of the economy, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The president shared center stage at the Shaker Heights High School in Cleveland with former Ohio Attorney General, Richard Cordray. President Obama used the recess appointment clause to appoint Cordray the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

* "The speech offered nothing new, no real economic plan. Just the same old pep talk. Does he really expect anyone to believe that his visit to one of the biggest battleground states right after the Iowa caucus is strictly business? Just call it what it is, a campaign stop at the expense of the taxpayers. * "There is nothing wrong with Cordray, but we do not need another governmental agency. A bunch of politicians sitting around debating the same old questions does nothing to fix a problem. Does our current commander in chief actually spend any time in his office working? He spends millions of dollars of our money on a nearly two week vacation in Hawaii and then returns to Washington, packs a bag and heads to Ohio to campaign. I do not believe that a trip by any American President during a campaign year is strictly business. I am glad that Obama is coming to Ohio though. Verizon unveiled the latest budget-friendly RIM device for CES and it doesn't depart too much from the QWERTY, candybar mold. In addition to CDMA radios it's also got GSM for globetrotters and NFC for those that want to hop on the next wave of mobile payment tech. Around the back is a 5-megapixel camera and, while it doesn't appear on the spec sheet, the image on the right appears to include a front-facing shooter as well (though, what you'd use it for is anyone's guess). The 9370 will run you $99 with a two year contract after a $50 mail-in rebate. And, most importantly, it'll be upgradable to BlackBerry OS 7.1 -- the most advanced in 20th century smartphone technology.
